Movers were supposed to come today to drop all my stuff off in Chicago. No one wanted to work on Sunday so I have to wait until tomorrow. Instead I caught on the blogs. Found this cool new video from Yeah Yeah Yeahs: Turn Into. I have to find out which album this is on . . . I don't think I have this song already. Have to wait until the movers come with my computer to find out.

I'm Home! Made it to Chicago
I made it! I got all my papers signed for the closing yesterday morning and then packed up all my critters in the car and headed north. Wednesday night we stayed a bit south of Atlanta. Today I drove from 10:30 am for about 12 hours and made it to Chicago. It's good to be home. I really need some sleep!

Last Weekend in Tampa
I went out with some co-workers last night. It's my last weekend in town and Julie's birthday is coming up so we all went out for drinks at Green Iguana in Ybor to celebrate. It was a random crowd - which was nice. Frank and Leonard were there and Randy and Alpa from my team came. Miriam from the barge team was there and so was Kevin Anderson (Leonard and Kevin both had on their Cornerstone t-shirts which was kind of funny). A new guy Andrew who I had not met also showed up. He must be friends with Julie. Marcia and her hubby Jimmy came later. Julie's husband Jason came with some of his co-workers - John and Chris. Kia showed up later as well
After Green Iguana Kia, Chris and I stayed out and we headed down to South Tampa. We went to Whiskey Soho as usual. We sat at the reserved tables and had some dinner - I was starving! One of the cooks was out that night and since he and Kia crossed paths a few times on the street he sat down to say hi. He ended up hanging out with us for the night. He was from Manchester and had the best accent! He also kind of looked like Bono (maybe it was his hat). The DJ was great which was surprising because we normally don't really feel the music they play there. Kia wanted to go in and we did do one lap around the bar and then Chris, English Guy and I decided to take off. I took Chris to his car and dropped English Guy at his place and then I headed out to the burbs. It was a fun night over all.
Now I'm hanging out enjoying the last weekend in my house and getting things organized for the movers (what to put in storage and what to bring to the new place). I have tons to do but really just want to catch up on TV shows!

Gossip Girl: My Guilty Pleasure
I couldn't help it . . . I had to check out Gossip Girl. And OF COURSE i love it! It's too juicy not too. So, in addition to The Office, Dancing with the Stars, and my BBC America shows, I have tons of TV to watch this fall. And who knows what else I'll get into.

Bourdain's Holiday Special
This will be too funny! Anthony Bourdain + Queens of the Stone Age together for a Christmas special. I love the holidays!
Here’s the plot: While Bourdain cooks a traditional holiday feast at his Connecticut home, the Queens are rocking tracks including “Sick, Sick, Sick,” “3’s & 7’s” and “Make It Wit Chu” at an ungodly volume in the basement rec room. . .
While Homme and Bourdain aren’t giving up the whole story, they revealed the episode will involve karaoke, surly adolescents and a Japanese businessman.

I Heart Captain Jack

I finally got a chance to check out BBC America's new series, Torchwood. It's a spin off of the new Doctor Who. I never got into Doctor Who. I remember watching it when I was little and my grandma used to let me stay up late or sleep in her bed. I have heard really good things about the new BBC version of Doctor Who but I don't really understand why he has a time machine so the whole thing seems kind of silly to me. But I watched the back story of Captain Jack (the main character of Torchwood) On Demand and also heard good things about this new series. I'm totally hooked. They fight aliens and it's kind of sexy-funny. It's total sci-fi but pretty interesting. And Captain Jack, played by John Barrowman is TOTALLY HOT!!! So of course I'm hooked!

Mark Ronson is everywhere . . .
I got into Mark Ronson a few months ago when he released his latest album Version. He's a DJ that has been working with alot of new artists and producing their album. I was drawn to him because of his work with Lily Allen and Amy Winehouse. Version has songs from a whole bunch of artists. The big single is Stop Me and they are playing it now stop all over the place. He uses lots of horns and jazz-pop sounds. And he is doing the MTV Video Music Awards. And now I just found his video for this Re-Mix of Bob Dylan's Most Likely You Go Your Way (And I'll Go Mine).

Only Two Weekends Left . . .
I can't believe I'm leaving and only have two weekends left! I have a bunch of people I need to say goodbye to - and of course that means goodbye drinks :) Tonight I'm going out with Kia. I've been holed up in the house all week so it feels good to actually take a shower and put on some makeup and get out of the house! I have my music blasting, am enjoying a glass of wine and getting ready to play with my new Smashbox makeup kit. I know, I'm such a girl! I'm feeling high maintenance today.

New Toy: The iPod Classic

I went for the Black 80GB version of the iPod Classic with the cover flow interface and new slim design. I got a free engraving on the back which reads
All you need is love.
- The Beatles -
It is supposed to ship by Monday and get here between Wednesday or Thursday. Let's hope that their estimates are correct because the movers come the week after that!
Remembering Luciano Pavarotti
I was saddened to hear that Luciano Pavarotti died this morning. I absolutely loved his voice. He was the one that made opera approachable for me. I remember watching him perform with The Three Tenors on PBS in the 90s. I of course bought that CD and used to listen to it while driving home from work sometimes. Pavarotti's performance of Nessun Dorma ALWAYS gives me chills. I have about five other of his CDs just because I liked his voice so much. I didn't know any of the opera songs but there are a few classics I know thanks to him.
The Three Tenors (Carreras, Domingo, and Pavarotti): "Nessun Dorma"
Then he started showing up everywhere in the 90s. He has several versions of Pavarotti & Friends which were charity concerts (and CDs) where he sang with various pop music stars. Below is the video of "Miss Sarajevo" which is a haunting song from U2 that Pavarotti performed on. His vocals just add to the sadness of the song which was written about the Miss Sarajevo beauty pageant (similar to our Miss America) contest held DURING the war. Beauty through war is very profound.

"Across the Universe" Soundtrack

I love a good soundtrack! And I'm really looking forward to both the soundtrack AND the movie Across the Universe.
Bono plays the character Dr. Robert in the film and sings "I Am the Walrus" and "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds." Joe Cocker sings "Come Together" in three different guises--pimp, homeless man and hippie, and Eddie Izzard portrays circus ringleader Mr. Kite rendering "The Benefit Of Mr. Kite."
Doesn't that sound so cool! Actually it sounds like it could be really good or really bad. But from the preview it looks like it'll be a good one. British accents, young love, historical setting and Beatles music . . .
