Little Children

Wow! Little Children is an EXCELLENT movie. One of the best movies I have seen in a long time. Even though this is a drama, I felt as if I was on a roller coaster. The emotions from the plot and sub-plots ebb and flow like rapids. All of the characters have done things that I do not want to like them for, but it is because of those imperfect traits that I can relate to them. I usually can't stand watching movies that have anything to do with affairs, but this one I couldn't help get drawn into.

Ahh, Ginger . . .

Today I watched two Ginger Rogers movies on TCM: Vivacious Lady and 5th Avenue Girl. Neither of these are with Fred Astaire. I really didn't know she was in so many movies! I always knew her as part of the Fred and Ginger team. She's one of my "new" favorite actresses. She is great on screen and plays wise-cracking roles. She really makes me laugh. I'm going to have to be on the lookout for more of her movies.

Deck the Halls

This year’s corny Christmas movie . . . I know Deck the Halls came out in 2006 but I didn’t watch it until it came on cable in 2007. Matthew Broderick and Danny DeVito are battling neighbors. DeVito wants to get so many lights on his house that it can be seen from space. From what I’ve seen it only got 1 star – ouch! I enjoyed it. It mad me smile a few times, laugh a few more and gave me goose bumps at the end. What more can one ask for?

Kate Nash - Foundations: How I LOVE It!

Foundations
Thursday night, every thing's fine, except you've got that look in your eye
when I'm tellin' a story and you find it boring,
you're thinking of something to say.
You'll go along with it then drop it and humiliate me in front of our friends.

Then I'll use that voice that you find annoyin' and say something like
"yeah, intelligent input, darlin', why don't you just have another beer then?"

Then you'll call me a bitch
and everyone we're with will be embarrassed,
and I wont give a shit.

My finger tips are holding onto the cracks in our foundation,
and I know that I should let go,
but I can't.
And every time we fight I know it's not right,
every time that you're upset and I smile.
I know I should forget, but I can't.

You said I must eat so many lemons
'cause i am so bitter.
I said
"I'd rather be with your friends mate 'cause they are much fitter."

Yes, it was childish and you got aggressive,
and I must admit that I was a bit scared,
but it gives me thrills to wind you up.

My finger tips are holding on to the cracks in our foundation,
and I know that I should let go,
but I can't.
And every time we fight I know it's not right,
every time that you're upset and I smile.
I know I should forget, but I can't.

Your face is pasty 'cause you've gone and got so wasted, what a surprise.
Don't want to look at your face 'cause it's makin' me sick.
You've gone and got sick on my trainers,
I only got these yesterday.
Oh, my gosh, I cannot be bothered with this.

Well, I'll leave you there 'till the mornin',
and I purposely wont turn the heating on
and dear God, I hope I'm not stuck with this one.

My finger tips are holding onto the cracks in our foundation,
and I know that I should let go,
but I can't.
And every time we fight I know it's not right,
every time that you're upset and I smile.
I know I should forget, but I can't.

And every time we fight I know it's not right,
every time that you're upset and I smile.
I know I should forget, but I can't.

Narrowing it down . . .

Well, I've come up with my favorite albums released this year. It's funny because these are not necessarily the albums I listened to the most this year. I Amy Winehouse, Lily Allen, Regina Spektor, Muse and The Fratellis topped that list. But those were their albums that were released in 2006. So I wonder if the albums I have picked here that were released in 2007 I will just listen to more and more this coming year of if I will get sick of them . . .

Below are my top 20 favorite albums IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER:

Noisettes - What's the Time, Mr. Wolf?
The White Stripes - Icky Thump
Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Is Is
Bruce Springstein - Magic
Feist - The Reminder
Kings of Leon - Because of the Times
The Killers - Sawdust
Timbaland - Shock Value
Mark Ronson - Version
Spoon - Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga
Okkervil River - The Stage Names
Rilo Kiley - Under the Blacklight
The Hives - The Black and White Album
PJ Harvey - White Chalk
Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings - 100 Days, 100 Nights
Radiohead - In Rainbows
The National - Boxer
The New Pornographers - Challengers
Arcade Fire - Neon Bible
Tegan and Sara - The Con

Hopefully I'll be able to pick a top five in the coming weeks :)

2007: The Year That . . .

I'm listening to the Ricky Gervais podcast. Ricky Gervais is asking what they will each remember 2007 for: "2007, The Year That . . ." Made me think about it for myself. I supposed for my 2007 is the year that I moved back to Chicago. I'm all settled now. It's also the year I got to take a break from work since I quit back in September and I haven't started looking for a new one. So over all it's be a big year for me, but a good year.

By the way, Ricky Gervais is supposed to announce US stand-up tour dates on Christmas Day. If he comes to Chicago I absolutely must go. But I really hope he also goes to Tampa. I'd love to fly down and go with Kia. She and I would have a blast seeing that together.
