My favorite song of the day . . .
Los Campesinos! - You! Me! Dancing
The beats yeah,
they were coming out the speakers and rewinding up,
straight in your sneakers
and I'm dancing like every song
who spends his bizzle like all my dance heros would if they existed.
And it's sad that you think that we're all just sceensters
and even if we were its not the senior thinking of,
to taking props from like these boy band fashions,
all crop tops and testosterone passion.
If there's one thing that I could never confess,
it's that I can't dance or sing or step.
It's you.
It's me.
And there's dancing! (x2)
Not sure if you mind if I dance with you
but right now I don't think you care about anything.
And oh if only there were clothes on the floor,
I'd feel for certain I was bedroom dancing.
And it's all flaming limbs at the front line.
Every single one of us is twisted by design
and dispatches from the back of mind,
just as long as were here everything is alright.
If there's one thing that I could never confess,
it's that I can't dance or sing or step.
It's you.
It's me.
And there's dancing! (x2)

What I'm Watching: Spring 2008

Thursday night if MY FAVORITE TV night! Tonight Ugly Betty and Lost come back and I'm back to juggling shows . . . I didn't notice until I listed out the shows I regularly watch, but I guess I watch a lot of TV! Really, I record most shows so I can fast forward through the commercials, but it still takes up several hours of my week. While I didn't appreciate the Writer's Strike because I missed my favorite shows, I did have more time doing other things.
I think some of the shows like American Idol and Dancing with the Stars that are on multiple nights are kind of selfish! I mean much of the season the has the first night as an hour and a half or two hours long. And why do the result shows need to be one hour long? They used to be only a half an hour.
This is what I'm watching now. What are you guys watching? I participate in BuddyTV. If anyone wants to be my buddy add me as a friend so we can compare notes :)

Come Twitter with me . . .
Lately I have been really into Twitter. Not only do I use it to connect with friends, but I also find it one of the best forums to get the latest news. The other day when there was an earthquake in the Midwest, I found out about it from a gal whose house was shaking. I also notice that the more I twitter about what I'm doing, the less I blog here. I will try to rectify that soon. But come follow me on twitter if you're interested in checking it out. My handle is @wildhoney (http://www.twitter.com/wildhoney).

The Dodo's
Last night we went to see The Dodo's at The Note in Bucktown. I first read about them on one of the indie music blogs I often check out and they were mentioned as an unappreciated. I downloaded an MP3 and found out I really liked them so I got tickets when I saw they were playing in town. Woven Hand and Brendan Losch opened for them. Brendan Losch played first and his music is really mellow but really good. I bought two CDs of his and they are perfect for unwinding. Woven Hand was pretty good but we didn't get into them that night. They had these really driving beats and I will definitely be buying a few of their songs. And of course The Dodo's were as fun as I thought they would be. They had an additional person on stage occasionally (main band is only two people) who was banging on this strange black object. After the show I asked the drummer what it was and he said it was a garbage can that they just bent the hell out of. We had an interesting night and it was a good show!

Jerry Seinfeld

Tonight I went to see Jerry Seinfeld perform at The Chicago Theater. I was sick so we didn't make a big night of it but we were healthy enough to enjoy the show. When we got there all of State Street was PACKED! I couldn't tell if they didn't open the doors or if they were just really slow taking tickets. I was a bit disappointed when I saw on the marquee that there was a "special guest". I wanted to see Jerry Seinfeld, not some other random guy!
We wandered the Loop a bit and then came back to the theater. They were flashing the lights while we were still getting our beers. We got to our seats just in time for Tom Papa to take the stage. I tell you, this guy is HYSTERICAL! We were cracking up the entire time. If you ever get a chance to check him out you should do so.
When it was time for Jerry I got REALLY excited. There was something so cool about seeing him up on stage after I have laughed to his TV show for so long. I have the utmost respect and appreciation for Jerry Seinfeld but my girlfriend and I walked out of the show and said that Tom Papa was funnier than Jerry. I quickly determined this is because we had super high expectations for Jerry. But he talked a lot about being a husband and a father and while it was funny, it's not the same as if he just talked about the simple things in life like he used to.

World Without End
I just finished "World Without End" by Ken Follett. It is the sequel to "Pillars of the Earth" which I read a few months ago. This book must have taken me about two months to get through. I listened to the audiobook which was about 46 hours long. Life was a bit busy so I didn't listen to it non-stop.
The book was good. I liked it almost as much as I liked Pillars, and Pillars is really hard to live up to. These books are so full of detail and you get to know the entire life of the characters so it is very fulfilling. This one takes places during the late 1300's (mostly in England) and much of the book centers around the effects of The Black Plague. I enjoyed this historical tragedy weaving it's way in and out of the book - it made it all seem more real.

Random Reunion
I have met up with so many random people from my past this past week. Old neighbors, friends of neighbors, people who worked in the neighborhood, people who I went to school with . . . It was really neat because it was a pretty random group. Mostly, we met up with old friends and it was really great to catch up. But since we spent a few different nights at Moher's there were also tons of people from the neighborhood and that mixed things up a bit. Even though we were grieving, it was still fun to be able to catch up with everyone.
It's kind of funny because when I sit back and look at everyone collectively, they are are just a big bunch of nice people. And everyone is pretty good looking too. Maybe I see them all through rose-colored glasses because I have fond memories. This might be why my grand-mother loved wakes so much - all the random people you see.

You Know I'm No Good
In tribute of Mr. K . . .
I'm posting this video for those of us on the inside. It's about someone who secretly has a good heart - but expresses it poorly. Amy's song is about a lover, but it can be applied in any relationship.
